Opel adds automatic shifter to performance-focussed Astra

OPEL will offer an automatic transmission on its Astra GTC Sport model from July.
It will also feature Opel's new Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine.
The automatic variant will attract a $2000 premium over the manual price, which means it will retail for $36,990.
Opel's new 1.6-litre SIDI turbo engine has 280Nm available between 1650 and 4250 rpm and an output of 125kW of power. The German carmaker says the all-new direct injection engine offers excellent refinement and smooth power delivery for the driver and consumes on the combined cycle consumes 6.8 litres of fuel per 100km and emits 160g/km CO2.
Other changes include "sound engineering" for lower radiated noise and vibration with the new SIDI engine in the automatic Astra GTC Sport.
