UPDATE: A SUPREME court justice told Richard Coburn he offered no dignity to someone he had professed to love when he dumped her in a wheelie bin.

Peter Applegarth sentenced the 30-year-old to nine years jail for the manslaughter of Justine Jones and 18 months jail for interfering with her corpse.

Those sentences will be cumulative so he will serve a total 10.5 years behind bars unless he is deemed eligible for parole earlier.

He has already served 1119, more than three years, days in custody since his arrest.

Justice Applegarth said Coburn was probably motivated by panic and was drunk at the time but he should have called an ambulance.

He said Coburn had showed no remorse for his actions and hoped, while in jail, he reflected on what he had done.

"What you did was selfish and it has ramifications for her grieving family," he said.

EARLIER: The Sunshine Coast man accused of murdering his former lover Justine Jones has been convicted of manslaughter and dumping her body in a wheelie bin.

But Richard Peter Coburn, 30, was acquitted of murder after a two-week trial in Brisbane Supreme Court.

Ms Jones, 22, was killed in her Alexandra Headland unit on the third State of Origin night in 2010.

Her body and many of her belongings were dumped in wheelie bins in the neighbouring area.

Ms Jones' body was found at the Nambour rubbish tip eight days later.

Her body was crushed so horrifically by a garbage compacting truck that a cause of death could never be determined.

Justine's sister Jackie, through a victim impact statement, told the court how devastated she was that he sister was treated like garbage.

She said her killing had destroyed her family, meant she would never be an auntie and her sister would never be a mum.

Jackie said she no longer had someone to share childhood memories with her.

Justine's mother Kathleen said she felt dead inside and dreamed of the day she could be with her daughter again.

She said she had ended a 30-year marriage with Justine's father Michael because they could not deal with what had happened.

The Crown has asked for a minimum 10 years jail.

Justice Peter Applegarth will sentence Coburn this afternoon.
