Free, all inclusive dance sessions will be held for Isaac residents enjoying their golden years.
The Move Makers series of dance sessions for those aged over 55 is set to take stage in Moranbah, Clermont and Dysart from Thursday.
GOLD Moves Australia’s Gail Hewton and Julie Chenery are facilitating the series for those with and without mobility issues, as well as dance or allied health professionals interested in leading dance sessions for older people.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the aim of the program was about being fun, social and beneficial for physical health, brain stimulation and overall well being.
“The free classes are about possibilities not limitations with options to dance seated, standing, holding on to something, behind a chair or using a walker,” she said.
“Classes include a variety of dance styles to great music.
“This is part of Council’s COVID-19 Community Support and Wellbeing Package, developing shared experiences to maintain and strengthen community spirit during uncertain times.”
The free dance sessions will be held on:
Thursday, May 13 at Moranbah Arts (38 Bacon Street):
- 10-11.15am – Dance for people with mobility issues
- 5.30-6.45pm – Active but no longer agile
- 7.30-8.45pm – Active and agile
Saturday, May 15:
- 10-11.15am at Clermont Anglican Church hall – Active but no longer agile
- 3.15-4.30pm at Dysart Civic Centre – Active and agile
For the Move Makers series, participants don’t require any dance experience but have been asked to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
Sessions can be booked by clicking here or by calling 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).
GOLD Moves Australia will also offer professional development in Moranbah on July 17-18 for dance teachers and practitioners, allied health and care practitioners interested in using dance to aid the health and wellbeing of older people.
