A Gladstone Regional Council recycling truck was damaged on Wednesday after collecting a load of rubbish containing an illegal item that later ignited into flames.

The truck was forced to make an emergency stop, onloading the waste upon one unlucky cul-de-sac.

Subsequently the truck was delayed for the remainder of the day and locals living in West Gladstone, Carinya, Hill Close and Little Creek did not receive their regular waste services.

The council has since apologised for the inconvenience and advised residents within these areas to leave their bins out overnight for a delayed collection on Thursday.
