A Moranbah business has donated about six days worth of water supply to its local community, saving the local council more than $100,000.
Dyno Nobel’s Moranbah site, a business of Incitec Pivot Limited, made the generous contribution of its extra allocated water that would otherwise remain in its reserves.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the township of Moranbah used up to 2800 megalitres a year.
“Fifty megalitres is about five to six days worth of water supply for the Moranbah community and would cost council about $133,000 to purchase,” she said.
“It’s money that can be better spent on other water projects and initiatives in Moranbah and will make a significant impact to the current year’s water supply arrangements.
“On behalf of council and the Moranbah community, we’re appreciative of Dyno Nobel Moranbah’s generosity and consideration for the benefit of their community.”
To mark the occasion, Council’s Water and Waste Standing Committee chairman Councillor Simon West and director of Water and Waste Gary Murphy presented an official letter of gratitude to the Dyno Nobel Moranbah site manager Peter Henderson.
“Our agreement with council is a win-win, for us and the community,” Mr Henderson said.
“We wanted to ensure our water was put to good use and talked to council about how we could help increase supply for the community.
“Our people are particularly pleased that we have been able to give back to Moranbah which is home to the vast majority of our 170-strong workforce.”
Mayor Baker said the council looked forward to fostering its positive relationship with Dyno Nobel Moranbah for the benefit of the Moranbah community and the town’s future water supply.
