Djokovic turns to Becker to help mind game

FOUR-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic says having grand slam winner Boris Becker on his coaching team should improve the mental aspect of his game.

FOUR-TIME Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic says having six-time grand slam winner Boris Becker on his coaching team should improve the mental aspect of his game.

Djokovic said his long-time coach Marian Vijda recommended Becker after the Serbian lost his world No.1 ranking to Rafael Nadal in October last year.

"I'm really glad to have Boris onboard. Obviously I'm glad to see there is many tennis legends coming back and being active as coaches in the teams of many active players," Djokovic said.

"It's really positive for the sport. Obviously, they have won so many grand slams between them - they've all been No.1s of the world - they know what we all go through, especially in the grand slams.

"I guess that's where the biggest help would come from, the mental aspect, and obviously working with some elements in the game."

Djokovic, seeded two behind Nadal, begins his campaign for a fifth title at Melbourne Park, and fourth in succession, when he meets Slovakia's Lukas Lacko on Rod Laver Arena tonight.
