Clermont dad, Luke William Pollard, had unlawful possession of weapon

The Clermont man found the gun a decade ago and wasn’t sure what to do with it, so opted to take it home before passing it on to another person.

Luke William Pollard, 38, pleaded guilty at Clermont Magistrates Court on August 11 to the unlawful possession of a weapon.

A man has been charged over a gun that he found “in the scrub” about ten years ago that has since been stored behind the fridge.

Police searched a property at Old Showgrounds Road on April 25, and spoke to Luke William Pollard, 38, who lived at the address.

Clermont Magistrates Court heard a gun had been found in the possession of another person who told police it originally came from Pollard.

He told police he had found the gun a decade earlier and wasn’t sure what to do with it, so he took it home and left it behind the fridge.

Pollard, a father of two, said he didn’t realise a license was required for an air rifle.

Magistrate Robert Walker said it had been a requirement since the introduction of the 1990 Weapons Act.

He pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of a weapon.

Pollard was fined $400. The conviction was recorded.
