After fewer than two years in the role, Arjan Bloemer has departed as chief executive officer of Central Highlands Development Corporation.

CHDC announced on Monday, May 23, the organisation was ‘in a period of transition’ and had appointed an interim CEO after an independent review process of Mr Bloemer’s position.

Mr Bloemer, from Toowoomba, joined CHDC in August 2020 following the retirement of former CEO Sandra Hobbs.

Mr Bloemer was an independent Adviser to company boards and executive level managers in Toowoomba and previously worked across a range of industries and regions in Australia in senior executive and managing director roles with companies such as Heritage Bank, Accenture and Ernst and Young.

On Monday, CHDC announced its Business Investment and Attraction manager Peter Dowling would act as interim CEO, with directors hoping to begin the recruitment process soon.

He will continue in this position until a suitable CEO is found.

Mr Dowling is more than capable to fill the position until a permanent candidate is found, having significant experience in regional economic development and the resources sector and previously being the general manager of the Corporation for eight years.

CHDC chair Kerry Hayes said the organisation was in a period of transition with a new Strategic Plan and exciting targeted projects.

“While our organisation continues to provide its significant advocacy role and deliver exciting and targeted projects, we need good symmetry between the organisation and our board to ensure we are growing our region in the best possible way,” Mr Hayes said.

“We are at a critical point for our corporation, which is located in one of Australia’s key regions identified in the recent National Farmers’ Federation Regional Development Precincts Proposal.

“A potential redeployment to a new Regional Tourism Organisation is on the horizon and our traditional agricultural sector is booming, so we need to be on our game.

“It is imperative to have the team ready for these challenges as we adopt a new Strategic Plan.”

Upcoming events include Farm to Dining, Resources and Innovation Forum, and the company’s 25th anniversary.

The board is confident an appropriate person will be found to lead the organisation.
