Police have warned community members to stay out of the Blackwater skate park construction site following reports of people trespassing.
Blackwater police took to the myPolice Central Highlands Facebook page on Sunday urging the community to be patient, with completion expected to be just weeks away.
“We have received reports of people entering the skate park construction site in Blackwater,” the post read.
“The team is working really hard to finish this project so the community can enjoy this space as fast as possible.
“Please be patient and do not enter the site while it’s under construction.
“Anyone seen inside the site may be charged with trespassing.”
Central Highlands Regional Council has revealed the skate park, at the corner of Wattle and Pine Streets, was set to be complete at the end of August, following minor delays.
“The car park still needs to be concreted, finishing works carried out to the pump tracks, lighting put in place and landscaping completed,” a statement read.
“Supply shortages of products due to the pandemic caused minor delays and resulted in some products being changed to concrete.
“The concrete pours booked in were then affected by rain.”
The project tender was awarded to Queensland-based specialist skate park builder VFG Skateparks Pty Ltd.
The Queensland Government provided $1 million towards the project through the Active Community Infrastructure Grant program, to enable Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities, while council’s capital budget funded the remaining $450,000.
