LAST weekend the Clermont Bears made the trip to Springsure for their round 14 clash against the Mountain Men.
A highly entertaining game saw the Bears outmuscle and outrun the Mountain Men to seal a 44 to 28 victory.
It was a tough, hard game dominated by the visiting forwards allowing the speed and skill of the backs to shine.
The Bears took a commanding lead midway through the first half but switched off to allow the Mountain Men to come back strongly.
The half-time score was 24 to 20 even though the Bears had had a lead of 24 to 0 for most of the first half.
The second half saw each team score try for try until the Bears ran away with the game towards the end.
Try scorers for the Bears were Clayton Humphreys with two, including one where he barged his way through Springsure's entire defensive line throwing defenders off left, right and centre to score. Never underestimate the strength of 'the Tank'.
Liam Williams also scored two including a show and go, pin-back-the-ears, wind-through-the-hair runaway try.
Mick Forrest scored one and the Bears are excited to have him back in his customary position at fullback.
Dean Williams and Brendon Finger also scored one try each. Without doubt the highlight of the night would have to be the try scored by Glenn Johns.
An 80 metre kick and chase resulted in Johns being in the right place at the right time with the right bounce.
And from all reports he is relishing the opportunity to be back on the field.
Corey Schumacher kicked six conversions.
Player's player was awarded to Liam Williams, while Clayton Humphreys and Glenn Johns also scored points.
In the Springsure camp, Mountain Man Luke Fletcher earned himself some stripes with two impressive tries.
James O'Keefe also threw caution to the wind as he charged headlong over the line to score another try for the home side along with Peter Hamilton and Beau Lane.
Daniel Mattey made his presence felt as he pushed over the line for another try while Mat Travers made two conversions.
