NISSAN has launched its Qashqai compact SUV from $25,850.
Pronounced "Cash-kai", this is the replacement for Nissan's popular Dualis. Nissan Australia has been forced to adopt the global name to fall into line with corporate rules.
While the Japanese car-maker suffered marketing nightmares after changing from Pulsar to Tiida, and back to Pulsar again, Nissan is confident the Qashqai is good enough to get past the moniker change.
It looks much like a smaller version of the slightly larger X-Trail - which is a good thing. The X-Trail was launched earlier this year with funky new looks, abandoning its sharp, squarer lines.
Available with a 2.0-litre petrol or 1.6-litre diesel, the Nissan Qashqai comes in two trim levels with each powerplant.
It's only available in front-wheel drive. Only about 5% of Dualis sales were all-wheel drive.
Seven seats are no longer an option - Nissan believes that the X-Trail fills the void for those wanting a compact seven-seater.
Eight colours are available: Ivory Pearl, Pearl Black, Truffle Bronze, Ink Blue, Magnetic Red, Nightshade, Platinum and Gun Metallic.
Nissan has also done away with six-month servicing intervals. The Qashqai only needs to be serviced annually or every 10,000km, which brings the marque into line with most other manufacturers.
Capped price servicing is available, average price is $292 for petrol and $402 for diesel over 12 services.
