ALL 10 Burnett State College students who competed at last week's Hoof 'n' Hook competition in Gympie brought home a ribbon, a testament to their hard work and passion for the beef industry.
As well as engaging in active learning the students began paving the way for future careers.
"For a lot of them it's about having the opportunity to interact with a lot people in the industry,” Agriculture Teacher John Hansen said.
"They also get to spend time working with their peers, learning about the direction in which the industry is moving and the opportunities that are available to them.
"It's great for them to build on their teamwork skills, build their resilience and pick up some practical hands-on skills working in close proximity to livestock.”
Although placing in so many divisions made Mr Hansen proud, he said he was most impressed by the hard work that was displayed.
"They supported each other and made sure everyone got into the ring on time, they got stuck in and did what needed to be done without any dramas or hassles,” he said.
"They went in working well as a team and came out with great achievements.”
Mr Hansen said an achievement that stood out was limousin steer Shotgun, led out by Claire Thompson, placing first in Light Weight Steer and Reserve Champion for the competition.
"The ones that did really well came from Colin Kilgour, from Proston. He supplied our steer that won Reserve Champion and Proston school's steer that won Grand Champion, so it was a very good day for him.” Mr Hansen said.
Goomeri's Simmental Steers, provided by Don Lewis, also placed in a number of divisions.
