Three motorists collectively racked up thousands in fines during a Road Safety Week crackdown in a North Burnett town, while police paid an educational visit to local schools.

Three motorist chose the wrong week to put the pedal to the metal, scoring themselves thousands in fines during a Road Safety Week crackdown in Eidsvold.

Police busted a 17-year-old speedster flooring it down the Burnett Highway, north of Eidsvold, at 142km/h in a 100km/h zone. The New South Wales man was fined a whooping $1286 and accumulated eight demerit points.

During the week, police stopped a 40-year-old woman travelling at 128km/h and a 21-year-old man at 133km/h, both on the Burnett Highway near Eidsvold.

The North Burnett woman was fined $459 and accumulated three demerit points and the Brisbane man was fined $643 and accumulated six demerit points.

Eidsvold officer Sergeant Geoff Price said overall local police were pleased with the behaviour of the motorists using the local roads, however, the high speeds detected were a concern.

“Speeding has a direct consequence on your life and those around you,” Sergeant Price said.

“There is no excuse to be driving at those speeds and it just makes the roads a dangerous place for both themselves and other motorists.”

As part of Road Safety Week, which focused on reducing road trauma and educating the community about safety on and around Queensland roads, Eidsvold police paid a visit to local schools and kindergartens.

The officers spoke to the students about being safe when crossing and walking near the road, bike safety and wearing helmets, as well as the students’ responsibilities as a passenger to wear seatbelts and not distract the driver.

Sergeant Geoff Price said it was great to see students fully engaged in the discussions.
