Swimmers make waves at Mitchell Roth Mercantile Relay

ONE of the biggest annual aquatic events in Gayndah made its return on Sunday, and the money raised was nothing short of incredible.

More than 130 competitors and spectators filed through the gates of the Gayndah swimming pool for the Mitchell Roth Mercantile Relay, and went on to raise $2143.

HiTide Swim School manager Amy Golchert said 18 teams competed on the day.

“It was a really great day and everyone really enjoyed themselves,” Golchert said.

“We had Mitchell Roth’s parents and sister come and put in a team, which was really great.

“We raised over $2000 on the day, which will go straight to LifeFlight and back into the pool.”

Four girls dressed as Hawaiians took the top honours in the relay, finishing one 27th of a second off their registered time.

Zoe Hoskinson, Zoe Baker, Cadence Webster and Rosie Halt used paddle boards to complete their laps.

Wes Bramley took first place in the senior male dash for cash, while Kaiden Ratcliff won the juniors event.

In the ladies category, Amy Wood took the win ahead of Abby Driver in second place.

The money raised from the day will be split, with $1141.75 going to LifeFlight and $1001.25 going back into the pool.
