SINCE its inception in 2008, Day for Daniel has brought education and awareness to Gayndah State School each year, and last Thursday was no different.

Schools, childhood centres and businesses across Australia registered with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to participate in Day for Daniel and receive education resources.

Participants wear red in remembrance of Daniel Morcombe who was wearing a red T-shirt when he was abducted and murdered on December 7, 2003.

Gayndah State School teacher Leah Trott said child safety was everyone's business and the staff and students at Gayndah State School were keen to share the message.

"A few years ago we were fortunate enough to have a visit from Bruce and Denise Morcombe, a visit that touched many of us who were here to see the passion and dedication this couple have to child safety,” Mrs Trott said.

"It cemented our decision to support, educate and raise funds for the Day for Daniel.”

Mrs Trott said the school endeavours to arm students with strategies that keep them safe and develop respect for themselves and for

others.

"It is essential that we are teaching skills to recognise situations where they feel unsafe and to encourage them to think about safety networks and people that are available to them,” she said.

"Each class participated in the various online videos and lessons that the Daniel Morcombe foundation have set up for schools and families.

"These ranged in topics from being safe online to what to do in situations with your friends to support them and be

safe.

The students and teachers wore red to symbolise unity and raise awareness.

"The students enjoy wearing something different other than their uniform to show that they remember this special day.”

Teacher aide Helen Cherry was the organiser for the day, gathering resources and organising activities.
