St Joseph's students keep sustainability in mind

TAKING THE LEAD: St Joseph's Catholic Primary School leaders are looking forward to a busy year.

CHICKENS and a vegetable garden are on the St Joseph's Catholic Primary School leaders' wishlist.

The Gayndah school has 12 Year 6 students who work together to lead their fellow students.

We asked them what they hoped to achieve this year.

What changes would you like to help introduce to your school this year?

Hugo Baker, Zoe Baker and Jackson Barbeler: We would like to plan an educational indigenous river walk for students and the wider community. We've been learning a lot about sustainability for the environment so hopefully we can add chickens to our vegetable garden and worm farm.

What sort of example do you want to set for the younger students?

Snow Campollo, Georgia Chambers and Indianna Hitchcock: We know that we are role models for our younger students so we demonstrate our GROW (Gratitude, Respect, Ownership and Welcome) expectations at all times. We collaborate positively with other students and staff. Listen to other people's thoughts and opinions respectfully.

What are you most looking forward to about high school?

Zoe Hoskinson, Nick Meyer and Layla Roth: So many different subject areas like home economics, manual arts and ag science. Sporting carnivals. Older school friends.

Tell us about your favourite school event of the year?

Loucas Sturgess, Oliver Waldock and Fletcher Worland: This year is our school's centenary so it is exciting to be a school leader this year. Last year, we went to Canberra.
