IF YOU'RE in the market for a new bar table and stools so you can entertain at Christmas, you might want to hold off because Gayndah Men's Shed members are giving the public the opportunity to win a set they made.
A collaborative effort of the Men's Shed members, the project was instigated by chairman Rob Miller to raise money for safety equipment.
"I'm hoping we'll raise about a thousand dollars from it,” he said.
"So we can have the proper masks when we're welding, ear muffs and just all the proper safety gear that we need to have.”
Although they're only hoping to raise a thousand dollars from the bar set, Mr Miller believes a similar one would cost $3500 in a store.
Described as rustic, the bar table was made from local trees and recycled slabs that members of the public had donated.
"We're always getting offers from people to drop off wood which is great, we almost don't have room for it all,” secretary Don Waugh said.
"But eventually it will all get turned into something.”
The mortice and tenon style of the table and stools means they can be pulled apart for transport and gives the set a special edge.
It is currently one coat of lacquer from completion and needs to be seen in person to appreciate the work involved.
In the lead-up to Christmas the men will bring the bar and stools into Gayndah to showcase and set up a stall where the public can buy raffle tickets.
A winner will be drawn at the Men's Shed Christmas break-up barbecue in early December.
Money raised will help the Men's Shed to continue providing a place for men to receive support and connect.
The men's shed movement is growing in popularity nationwide.
