A NEW playground at St Therese Catholic Primary School is not only safer for the students, but it's safer for the environment.

Reducing the negative impact of waste, the Monto school's new equipment was built from recycled or recyclable materials only.

"Our equipment was getting quite old and just for the sake of safety we decided it was best to get a new playground,” principal Monica White said.

"Our last playground was 20 years old, so I really liked the natural look of this playground compared to all the metal and chains that the last one had.”

The company, Willplay, designs and manufactures its equipment in Bundaberg, which Ms White said was a great drawcard.

And the students have taken to it like ducks to water.

"They love playing on this new playground. It's a big hit,” Ms White said.
