CRIME: Stealing, drink driving and refusing to leave pub

FROM stealing all four wheels off a car to refusing to leave the local pub, this is what the Gayndah police have been dealing with in the last fortnight.

On Friday, November 27, police caught a 69-year-old Binjour man drink driving.

The man blew nearly twice the legal limit at 0.092 and will face court on December 4.

Gayndah Police OIC sergeant Don Auld said there had also been cases of petty stealing happening in the community.

“At Byrnestown, a vehicle involved in a crash, about four hours later it had all the wheels taken,” sergeant Auld said.

Sergeant Auld advised the public to be aware of this kind of opportunistic crime if you are faced with a situation where you have to leave your car unattended.

“We recommend that you secure the vehicle and the best way is to have the vehicle removed from the roadside as soon as you possibly can,” he said.

“They regularly become targets of people stealing things like wheels.”

Police are still investigating who stole the wheels off the car in Byrnestown.

“Don‘t just assume that it’s Gayndah and it’s fine, sometimes that works against you because there are less witnesses,” sergeant Auld said.

Sergeant Auld has also seen a few Gayndah residents refusing to leave the pub when they’re told to, including a 56-year-old Gayndah man who was fined.

“If you get told to leave, generally it’s because you’ve had too much too much to drink,” he said.

“You have to leave, you don’t get to stand there and argue the point.”
