Plans revealed: Four North Burnett caravan parks to be sold or leased
Four North Burnett caravan parks will be up for grabs after the council revealed plans to cut spending.
Four North Burnett caravan parks will be put on the market, leaving their futures uncertain as the council ditches its holdings.
The North Burnett Regional Council revealed its decision in a statement on September 24 to phase out ownership of the Mountain View, Eidsvold, Mingo Crossing and Mount Perry caravan parks, as well as the Mount Perry worker's camp.
It said operating these sites was not a council requirement, and they would be better maintained by “private entities or community organisations”, which would reduce council spending and afford “opportunities for (their) renewal and reinvestment”.
The parks’ “multifaceted” transitions from the public to the private sector — to be carried out over this financial year, ending June 30, 2026— will be different for each site.
The North Burnett council will remain as trustee for the Biggenden caravan park and will take the site to market with a public tender.
The Eidsvold caravan park, however, will be dropped by the council, leaving it up to the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development to appoint a new trustee.
The council said it hoped to sell the Mingo Crossing caravan park and business, and the Mount Perry caravan park and workers camp, by public tender also, but “will consider returning to the market to seek a long-term lessee” if they remain unsold.
The Mount Perry caravan park and workers camp will be subdivided to separate the two from other on-site council facilities, the council said.
