THE brightest stars of Burnett State College were revealed last night in their 58th Annual Awards Evening, involving the presentation of academic sporting and cultural awards for years 7-12.

The Awards Night was held outside due to COVID restrictions, but Burnett State College Principal Mr Theodore Bellas was loving the “alfresco” feel.

“I said to Mr Kemp, we’ll have a game of football after we finish here this evening,” Mr Bellas said.

Mr Bellas highlighted the achievements of the school from the past year and revealed some statistics of 2019’s graduates.

“72 per cent of last year's graduates responded to the survey and of those 90.5 per cent have gone on to education training or employment,” he said.

“57 per cent are currently in some form of recognised education or training and the most common form of study for them is a university bachelor's degree.

“It is a really important point that our kids can go anywhere from our college.”

Mr Bellas said these 2020 graduates are the first group of students to go through the ATAR system.

“The students will complete their final external exams this week, we wish them all the best in these final assessment and we wish them all the best into the future,” he said.

Winner of the Dux Award Kiana Watt said receiving the award was a great end to the year.

“I’ve been successful in getting offered an interview for UQ’s provisional medicine pathway so I have my interview coming up, I’ve also applied for JCU medicine and I find out about that interview pretty soon,” Miss Watt said.
