North Burnett Council: Mt Perry resident cops big fine for unlawful building

A Burnett landowner has been warned their new building could be demolished after they were hit with an $8,000 fine for failing to comply with council development requirements.

A Burnett resident is facing a costly bill after they failed to comply with development requirements, as well as the prospect of having to demolish their new building.

The Mt Perry landowners were told by the North Burnett Regional Council to submit a development application for building works conducted on their premises, lodge a plumbing compliance application and pay the necessary fees.

However this was not completed and the council has now issued a court order for the landowners to comply with this request, or risk having to demolish the building.

The landowners have also been fined $8,765.30 by the council.

“This unfortunate turn of events is an important reminder of the need for landowners to complete the necessary applications required for building work in the North Burnett region,” said Mayor Les Hotz.

“It is important for building and plumbing regulations to be followed to protect property and potentially save lives from buildings that are not compliant with safety regulations.”

The council said residents could contact its Development Services team in the early stages of building planning or if they are unsure about the compliance of existing structures.

“Our Development Services team can step you through any questions regarding planning regulations, the application process, relevant fees and ensuring that your structures are compliant,” the mayor said.

“It is the responsibility of landowners to be informed of their legal responsibilities and follow any directives around compliance.”
