BUILDING, banter and billiards - it's business as usual at Gayndah Men's Shed, but they now have a few new officers helping to hold the fort.

At the Men's Shed's most recent AGM, some fresh faces stepped forward to give back to their valued group.

"The main officers stayed the same but we elected a new safety officer, project officer and public relations officer,” chairman Rob Miller said.

Col Driver was reinstated as vice chairman, Don Waugh as secretary and Steve Harris as treasurer, while Dominic Formosa was installed as safety and training fficer, Evert Klaasen as project co-ordinator and Mike Vincent as publicity officer.

While Mr Miller joked that the men had been busy playing pool, they've also got their eyes on a few upcoming projects including this Saturday's Garage Sale Trail where they will be selling items made by or restored by the volunteers.

All proceeds will be used for tools and equipment.

A raffle will also be held on the day, offering a rustic solid wooden slab bar table and stools, rustic style, as the prize.

"Our other latest project is a big container that we're putting the footings on but apart from that we've just been repairing chairs and coffee tables, that sort of thing,” Mr Miller said.

Mr Miller said the Men's Shed provided a lot more than a place for building projects.

"It's a place for men to come, sit around, have a coffee and talk,” he said.

"A lot of things are discussed between the men that they won't discuss with their wives and it's a place where they can let their hair down.

"If somebody's got some problems they are facing, they can talk to the other men before they talk to the women in their lives or a doctor, and then the guys can offer advice or maybe say 'you best go see a doctor'.”
