NURSE unit manager Jan-Adele Hotz was overwhelmed with pride for her team when Mundubbera Hospital was announced the winner of the prestigious Prime Super Employer Excellence in Aged Care Award at the 2018 Community Achievement Awards on Friday night.
With hundreds of nominations, the hospital won the award from a strong field of community contributors.
The winners were announced at Royal on the Park Brisbane and almost 400 guests gathered from across the State to celebrate Queensland's high achievers.
"The award is all about your staff so staff satisfaction, retention and creating a workplace that encourages them to stay," Mrs Hotz said.
"The key thing that won us the award is we have a lot of staff who have longevity in their roles. Although we have an ageing workforce we have a lot of committed and motivated staff who really care passionately about the job they do, and I think that was evident in our application, and obviously evident to our judges."
Mundubbera Hospital staff members Margaret Latza, Colleen Crofts and Pamela Ward were recently presented with long service awards; all three having more than 40 years of service.
The hospitalprovides a comprehensive range of acute, out-patient and community health care services.
Staff are provided with training onsite, at tertiary facilities and via video conference.
A staff well-being fund ensures that staff are provided with recognition for work well done and birthdays are celebrated with zest. Exercise bikes and a treadmill are available and a cooked, sit down Sunday breakfast is a valued staff tradition.
"Whats unique about Mundubbera is everyone who is there wants to be there," Mrs Hotz said.
"They're not just there for a pay ticket, they're there because they want to provide a good service and they're passionate about seeing the elderly in our community age in a nice environment, surrounded by people they love, who they have watched grow up and who make them happy."
Winners, across eight different categories of community achievement, each received a $2500 prize from Commonwealth Bank and trophy.
