After more than 200 votes rolled in for the 24 prep teachers vying for the title of Burnett’s favourite, one young educator has come out on top.

Megan Kingston of Moffatdale Primary School in the South Burnett was crowned the winner with 23 per cent of the votes.

The 26-year-old was excited by the news, which she said was simply a testament to the close-knit community she called home.

Miss Kingston became a prep teacher two years ago, when she was first offered the role by the principal.

Despite having only spent a few years in the position, Miss Kingston said she always knew it was the job for her.

“I think I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, just from having so many great teachers at school teaching me when I was little,” she said.

“It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Finding the role rewarding, she was looking forward to a future in primary teaching.

“Just seeing the kids grow throughout the year and the rewards which come from teaching little kids is really great,” she said.

“They’ve got their own little sense of humour and funny things like that.”

When asked about the secret to her success, Miss Kingston said she believed the rural South Burnett community played a large part.

“You get to know the families and what the kids are like much easier,” she said.

“Getting to know their families, their backgrounds makes coming to school easier, and that makes it easier to be able to teach them all the important things in the early years.”

Di Rackemann of Gayndah State School was voted as the region’s second favourite with 17 per cent of the votes, ahead of Brooklyn Stone of Monto’s St Therese’s Catholic Primary School with 8 per cent of the votes.

Kate Elford of Nanango State School tied for fourth also with 8 per cent of the votes, edging in front of Rhiannon McLennan of Proston State School with 6 per cent of the votes.

Congratulations to all nominees, place getters and this month's Best of the Burnett winner, and keep an eye out for our next poll!
