A MAN in his 40s is dead after he was stabbed on Tuesday morning.

UPDATE August 25:

THE mother of 43-year-old murder victim Gary Ryan discovered his body after he failed to come back for a cup of tea she had made him, police have said.

"She went looking for him after 11 and found him in the toilet next to the garage," Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford said.

"He was bleeding profusely and she rung 000."

Police have not yet arrested or charged anyone with Mr Ryan's murder and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

UPDATE 10am:

POLICE have appealed for people to come forward with any information they have relating to a Mundubbera murder investigation.

Wide Bay Burnett District Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford said no one had yet been charged over the murder.

"At about 10.30am yesterday, police were advised of an incident at this address," Insp Pettiford said.

"It involved a 43-year-old local resident, he suffered very serious injuries from the attack.

"Queensland Ambulance Service attended, the male person was taken to the local hospital where unfortunately he passed away from his injuries."  

Insp Pettiford said police were following several lines of inquiry.

"We are at the early stage of the investigation and we are appealing for public assistance," he said.

"Anyone who might have been in the locality of this location in Mundubbera, who may have witnessed anything, person of vehicles, could they please contact Crime Stoppers so that we can speak to those people.

"No one has been arrested or charged, it's early days of the investigation and we are following all lines of inquiry."

Insp Pettiford was unable to release the name of the victim, as several family members were yet to be informed.

"Most family members have been advised, but there are still others that need to be contacted," he said.

"That's why we can't release his name at this stage."

AUGUST 24 8am:

POLICE have announced they are treating the death of a 43-year-old man as a homicide.

In a statement police said they had commenced a homicide investigation.

"Forensic officers remain at the residence where a crime scene was established yesterday (August 23)," the statement said.

Detectives from Maryborough CIB will be involved in the investigation.

UPDATE 3.15pm: 

POLICE have confirmed the 43-year-old man has died.

In a statement, police said they were called to a residence at Bunce Street around 11.30am in response to a man with apparent stab wounds.

"As a result, a 43-year-old man was transported to Mundubbera Base Hospital where he later died," the statement said.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious. 

Earlier - August 23

A MAN in his 40s is in a serious condition after he was stabbed on Tuesday morning.

Police were called to a house on Bunce St, Mundubbera, which has been declared a crime scene.

An RACQ LifeFlight helicopter has arrived at Mundubbera Hospital to airlift the man, who has stab wounds to his chest and head.

Officers from the Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch will investigate. 

Police have not charged anyone at this stage.

A 41-year-old man was stabbed on Lyons St in Mundubbera about 12 months ago.

Footage of the incident last year showed the moment he was stabbed in the arm and neck.
