HORSING AROUND: Gayndah locals try to catch runaway pony

A RUNAWAY pony called Princess Patch had the town on a search mission after she escaped through an open gate on Saturday night.

A PONY called Princess Patch “sneakily” went missing in Gayndah on Saturday night and had the whole town searching.

Princess Patch escaped through the front gate when Lizzy Kilpatrick’s daughter was driving in.

Helpful locals around the town assisted the family in their search for the cheeky pony, with the Police even getting involved.

Gayndah Police OIC sergeant Don Auld said it wasn’t an “average” job for a typical Saturday night.

“The horse just bolted after the gate was left open,” sergeant Auld said.

“That was a bit of excitement for us, we had to run around and catch a horse.”

Sergeant Auld said Senior Constable Brendan Florance caught the horse alongside a local helper.

“With the help of a local lady, who had handled horses better than police, the horse was returned safely to its enclosure,” he said.

Ms Kilpatrick said it was a “very stressful” situation as she is currently in Bundaberg Hospital after suffering a stroke.

“Tears flowed, I can’t lose my baby girl, she has had a rough life before we got her, now she’s spoilt,” Ms Kilpatrick said.

“We have had Princess Patch for seven years and would not give her up for any amount of money.”

Ms Kilpatrick said she is so grateful to everyone who helped rescue the pony.

“My daughter and hubby wouldn’t have stopped looking for her until they found her,” she said.
