Hometown heroes take out Veterans Carnival

Mundubbera golfers have been hailed hometown heroes after they took out the first and second-grade ladies' divisions of the interregional Veterans Carnival.

GOLF: Lorraine Lindenmayer and Jenny Lohse have been hailed hometown heroes after they took out the first and second-grade ladies' divisions of Mundubbera Veterans Carnival.

Alongside the men's winners, John Archibald from Maryborough and Peter Johnson from Mareeba, they made a name for themselves, taking out almost 60 contenders from the region and beyond last Wednesday.

Archibald finished with 41 stableford points, Johnson 35, Lindenmayer 35 and Lohse 32.

Malcolm Dowe won Sunday's stableford competition with 38 points.

The ball winners were Col Cluff on 37, Paul Carlyon 36, and Peter Hunsley 36.

Alan Potter claimed the pin shot on 5 as well as the eagle's nest.

Lorraine Lindenmayer won the ladies competition with 30 points and also the accurate shot on 5.

Gayndah Golf Club held its Veterans Day on Tuesday.

Rob Kirk took out the men's first-grade division on 38, while Kathy McDonald won the ladies' on 41.

Almost 30 players took on Thursday's Sporters nine-hole stroke competition.

Jason McCosker came out on top with a score of 22 nett and the A-grade pin shot on 16.

Monto Golf Club also hosted its annual Veterans Carnival with 39 players travelling from as far as Mareeba and Injune.

Alan Spillman took out the men's competition with best gross score, while Nola Wilkes took the ladies'.

A club representative said welcome rain the previous night, and continuous cloud coverage, made for cooler playing conditions.

They also gave a special thanks to Calliope for bringing the bulk of the players.
