Gayndah brings carols to its seniors

More than 100 Gayndah locals came out for a night of carols under twinkling fairy lights, with their dearest seniors.

More than 100 Gayndah locals came out for a night of carols under twinkling fairy lights, with their dearest seniors.

Gayndah Churches came together to host the night at Gunther Village Aged Care Home, providing a free sausage sizzles and ice creams and singing carols.

"It was an absolutely beautiful night, and the residents were telling me it was the best carols they had ever been to," Lifestyle co-ordinator Jenny Thompson said.

"We loved having the carols right here at Gunther because it meant we could include some residents that don't often get to go out to events.

"We also had a guest appearance from Santa who was handing out lollies but we underestimate the supply he would need, his lolly basket had to be topped up twice."

Santa wasn't the only guest appearance of the night.

"Our Gunther Groovers choir made the other special appearance of the night when they performed Little Drummer Boy for the crowd,” Mrs Thompson said.

"Our choir allows our residents who have been in choirs throughout their life to fulfil their dream of still belonging to one.

"It also assists with stimulation and they loved performing.”

The aged care home sold candle glow sticks and neon bracelets on the night with profits going to their lifestyle program, funding day bus trips.

Mrs Thompson said the event was a huge success and she hopes the carols at the home will happen again in the future.
