"WHEN I am to leave the North Burnett I have two things in my head, you need a weir and you need a bridge,” drought envoy Barnaby Joyce said during his visit to the region on Tuesday.
Mr Joyce was joined by Flynn MP Ken O'Dowd on a tour of local farms and spoke at the North Burnett Ag Network Forum.
Dozens of producers showed up to share their struggles at the forum.
Hot topics included water infrastructure, the condition of local roads, dieback, farm management deposits and the John Peterson Bridge.
In the afternoon the Mundubbera to Jandowae Roads Working Group showed Mr Joyce and Mr O'Dowd the bridge.
"This is a significant break in the link to create an inland route for Queensland, which gives us some flood mitigation, so currently when the Bruce Highway goes under we don't have an inland route that is secure,” Roads Working Group chair Georgie Somerset said.
"It's also a significant supply route for the inland Burnett businesses and also for residents accessing education and health.
"Facing a significant increase in heavy transport using this bridge on a regular basis, I think there are safety threats and particularly for residents around Mundubbera.”
Ms Somerset said nothing compared to having the politicians at the site and exposing them to the conditions of the bridge.
North Burnett deputy mayor Faye Whelan agreed.
"Two promises Ken (O'Dowd), the weir and the bridge, will get you re-elected,” Cr Whelan said.
"Shake on it then,” Mr O'Dowd responded.
"We've got it, Barnaby's got it.”
