THE vibe at Queensland State Athletics was like nothing Elizabeth Strong had ever experienced - a roaring crowd, fierce competition, and family and friends who had travelled hours to watch.

And the subsequent adrenalin helped Strong bring home fourth and fifth in the womens 18-19 Shot Put and Women 18-19 Discus Throw, respectively.

"This year I have had the honour to represent Burnett State College for my final year in schooling and couldn't have succeeded the way I have without the support from the school and family,” she said.

"Gayndah is still such an amazing place to compete in, as our community backs up every kid that participates, but at the QSAC track you can clearly hear and see the difference in the crowds as your team and your own parents cheer you on...”

Strong threw the discus 18.80 metres and the shot put 8.07 metres.

The competition marked a chapter closing for the young athlete.

"Unfortunately my journey has come to an end as 18-year-olds cannot go further than the state trials, as we are too old to compete at the next level.”
