Eager leaders want hands-on learning

The ambitious Boynewood duo have big plans for their captaincy and their careers.

BOYNEWOOD State School's 2019 captains are thinking beyond their year of leadership in terms of what they want their peers to experience.

Luke Moloney is pushing to see more hands-on learning within the school gates and beyond.

Kainen Beezley wants to set a good example of showing respect to everyone and getting active outside.

The ambitious duo have big plans for their captaincy and their careers.

What changes would you like to help introduce to your school this year?

Kainen: I want to do more fundraisers like crazy hair day to help raise money for school camp. I would like to have a say in where we go on school camp and what we do when we get there to make it a fun time for all the students.

Luke: I would like to have more fundraiser days with the Student Council to raise money for those in need. I would like to have more school excursions to local businesses so we can see how they operate and how they run their business. I would like to see more hands-on learning experiences like mechanics, welding, first-aid and cooking.

What do you want to be when you're older?

Kainen: I would like to be a doctor or a mechanical engineer.

Luke: When I am older I would like to own my own property and trade cattle like my dad.

Tell us about your favourite school event of the year.

Kainen: I like athletics days. I like to be outside and be active. I like to compete against other students my age at my school and also the district schools around Mundubbera.

Luke: My favourite school event is going on school camp. We went to Stradbroke Island last year. My favourite part about camp last year was going sand boarding. I am looking forward to going on school camp this year which is going to be a bush-based camp.

What sort of example do you want to set for the younger students?

Kainen: I want to show the younger students how to stay safe and help the learn to be respectful to the other students, staff and visitors to our school. I want to help them get more active outside break times and after school.

Luke: The example I want to set for younger students is I want them to be respectful to others and I want them to be safe around the school. I would also like to be nice and kind to them hoping that one day they will learn from my example and be kind to others.
