Which school captain is keen to study exercise science?

FOR Isis District State High school captain John Houton, moving from Biggenden State School to Isis, with a much bigger population, was a huge step.

When the 2019 school captains were announced at awards night last year his name was the last to be announced.

John said "when my name was called my heart was racing”.

"As I have only been at Isis for one year, it was a big surprise,” he said.

"After the night reality hit me, I went from being happy to being stressed.”

John realises how big a role and how much responsibility there is, but with his family and friends around him, he believes he can do it.

What changes would you like to introduce to your school this year?

I can't promise any big changes as there is currently a big change already happening which is moving the Annexe to the main school. However I will try my best to put forward ideas. Even if the ideas are small things like fundraising for events like the school formal or to help farmers. Any idea can make an impact.

What do you want to be when you're older?

I would like to be in a field that's related to fitness. I'm not 100 per cent sure what career or job I want but I do know I would like to study exercise science at university.

Tell us about your favourite school event.

Definitely sports day. Isis has very active students and when sports day comes competition starts and it can be really fun to challenge yourself and your friends.

What sort of example do you want to set for the younger students?

I want them to see how mature a person can be, how much they can respect others and be respected for it, that wearing the correct uniform at school is important, to be confident in themselves and not hold back. I want them to be the best they can be and take the right path and I'm here to be be a role model to guide them.
