Gayndah’s local legends were celebrated for their incredible contributions to the community this morning as the 2021 North Burnett Australia Day Awards were announced across the region.
Residents of the tight-knit town flocked to Gayndah Swimming Pool to watch on as seven of their neighbours received well deserved recognition across a diverse range of fields, including events, sport, and community service.
Here are Gayndah’s 2021 Australia Day Award recipients:
Junior Cultural Award: Lauren Trott
Senior Cultural Award: Rachel Koster
Junior Sports Award: Abbey Wilkinson
Senior Sports Award: Leroy Brown
Community Event of the Year: Gayndah Jockey Club
Volunteer of the Year: Russell Kemp
Young Citizen of the Year: Georgia Laidler
Citizen of the Year: John Zahl
Alongside the local awards, a number of regional awards recognised outstanding achievement and service to the community across the North Burnett. Two of these awards were presented to Gayndah’s own.
