The Burnett community is mourning the death of Val Hotz, wife of the North Burnett Regional Council Mayor Les Hotz.
Mr Hotz was notably missing from his council’s annual budget meeting on Wednesday, June 28, after Mrs Hotz died the day before.
Councillors were subdued when told the news of her death.
Those present stood for a minute’s silence to acknowledge the loss felt keenly by the council and the community.
A funeral notice was distributed on social media later on Wednesday, announcing that Mrs Hotz had died that day in Monto Hospital, aged 71 years.
Family and friends were invited to attend the funeral service at 10am on Monday, July 3 at Monto Community Hall.
