A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN mums and bubs group is making a big splash, with dozens turning out for the monthly sessions.
IWC North Burnett assistant manager Cynthia George said IWC was delighted to team up with Amy and Ben Golchert, who recently took over the running of Gayndah Pool, to deliver the Mums and Bubs sessions in the relaxed, friendly and most of all cool environment of the pool.
"There are change facilities on site, the chairs and mats go out on the grass, and the fun runs from 10am-noon. The next session will be on Thursday, March 21. The April session will be moved to an inside venue, to suit the cooler weather,” Cynthia said.
The success of the group has come as no surprise to IWC, which has responded to community demand for the sessions.
IWC is non-government, community-run and a registered charity, offering health and wellbeing services to all people, indigenous and non-indigenous.
Open to both mothers and grandmothers caring for small children, the next week's session will include advice from IWC health professionals as well as swim safety tips.
"The launch of the group is a natural flow-on from the IWC's bulk-billed midwife sessions, which include antenatal and six weeks of post-natal support,” Cynthia said.
"We wanted to provide ongoing support from IWC, as well as interaction with other mums - and also grandparents with a wealth of knowledge.”
At the sessions, the IWC team also is able to open up pathways to a range of other on-the-ground services offered in the North Burnett, including regular visits to the region by an accredited practising dietitian and a diabetes educator.
"We find a friendly, relaxed environment which is inclusive of everyone works well in our community,” said Cynthia.
"IWC courtesy transport is available - just call us on 41614800 to book a place and we can pick you up and drop you home again.”
