A Monto woman said on TUesday she was struggling to grasp the magnitude of her luck after winning $1.8 million in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw.
The North Burnett local was one of 11 Division One winners and received the surprising call she would claim the massive win on Monday, October 24.
When asked by the Gold Lotto team how she would spend her brand new fortune, she said it would go towards her very first home.
“I don’t think I’ll be telling many people, but I’ll definitely be celebrating tonight!” she told the Gold Lotto team.
“I’m speechless! I can’t think right now.”
“I’d love to put the prize towards a house. I’ve always wanted to own a home in my name.”
The life-changing 18-game lotto ticket was purchased from Monto Newsagency, 33 Newton Street, Monto.
Monto Newsagency owner Therese Roger said her team had already begun celebrating the role their shop played in the windfall.
She told the Gold Lotto team she couldn’t believe the little agency had sold a Division One ticket, the first time in almost10 years.
“My first reaction when I first found out on Saturday night was ‘Oh my god! How exciting!’ I couldn’t believe we had sold a division one winning entry worth $1.8 million,” she said.
“I’ve started to celebrate this win with my amazing team at Monto Newsagency, and I recognise their efforts and hard work. We couldn’t have changed the lives of one of our customers without them.”
“We’ve started to advertise the exciting news in-store and on our social media accounts. I think that it will create a lot of excitement with our customers and the community.”
The total winnings from the Division One event were spread across the country with four winners in Queensland, four in New South Wales, two in Victoria and one in Tasmania.
