A glamorous gala ball will celebrate a century of hospital services in Mundubbera as locals desperately try to fill key gaps in regional health care services.

Officially opened in October, 1923, the original Mundubbera Hospital was born from the calls of pioneers to bring hospital care to the region.

Over the past 100 years, regional hospital care has rapidly evolved, with the original Mundubbera hospital buildings now privately owned homes which have been relocated across the state.

Secretary of the Mundubbera Hospital Auxiliary, Sue Crofts, spoke on the importance of highlighting such a historic milestone as regional health services across the state continue to struggle.

“Our facility has survived for so long and you know how it is in small towns, we’re losing facilities not gaining them,” she said.

“We’re celebrating the fact we have had a hospital, an ongoing hospital in Mundubbera for 100 years; for a small town that is a very important milestone.”

The Auxiliary is in a constant state of fundraising, as they work to support and provide much-needed services and equipment to locals and hospital staff.

The team works with nurses to identify the medical ‘wishlist’ of the community and in the past have delivered things from microwaves for hospital staff right through to providing rooms for family members of those on palliative care.

The Auxiliary team are currently working towards purchasing 10 pressure relieving mattresses for both the hospital and palliative members of the community.

With the mattresses costing several thousand dollars each, the Auxiliary team are hoping the Gala Ball, combined with a major raffle, would bring in the much-needed funding to purchase the mattresses.

The Gala Ball will take place on October 14, 2o23, at the Mundubbera Town Hall with doors opening from 6pm, with live music from the Zac Brown Band on hand to liven up the dance floor.

Tickets cost $50 each, with catered meals supplied by Gayndah business Down Right Delicious and a bar offering drinks throughout the night.

200 of the 350 tickets have been sold, though Mrs Crofts is hoping to hit that “ambitious” number in the coming weeks.

Tickets are available here.
