Captain Creek man critical after Watalgan crash, grass fire

Police have called for the assistance of witnesses to a crash involving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on in Watalgan that left a Captain Creek man in a critical condition.

Police have called for witnesses as the Forensic Crash Unit investigates the motorcycle crash that caused a grass fire and left a Captain Creek man in critical condition.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 22, police urged witnesses or anyone with vision of the crash to contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash which occurred on Rosedale Rd, Watalgan around 1.05pm on Thursday, September 21.

A Wide Bay Hospital Health Service spokeswoman said on Friday the motorcycle rider, a 50 year old Captain Creek man, was transferred to a Brisbane hospital in a critical condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the man was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Rosedale Rd in Watalgan when the crash occurred around 1.05pm on Thursday, igniting a grass fire on the western side of the road.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the man was transported to Bundaberg Hospital in a critical condition.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the fire, which had spread across more than 2ha, was contained on two sides as water bombing services attempted to contain the western edge just before 4pm.

The fire was contained shortly after 6pm and fire crews left the scene, with Queensland Parks and Wildlife units remaining to monitor the scene.

After closing Rosedale Rd in both directions, police reopened the road at 6.10pm.

The QPS spokesperson thanked the public for their patience.
