A gap in the market and a desire to bring natural health care to Biggenden led Amber Hurst to make a career change.

The dental assistant turned business owner opened Wholesome Health Foods and Vitamins this month.

Mrs Hurst said she wanted to bring a natural health option to those who had been disappointed by typical health support or were seeking more natural alternatives to modern medicines.

“A lot of people we speak to in the community have gone to the doctors, if they can even find a local doctor, and been told ‘there’s nothing wrong with you’,” she said.

“Or the doctors go to a certain point in their care but they may not go beyond that or look at things through a different aspect.”

After watching her own husband and family struggle with health issues and difficulties she saw the benefits natural products offered, and decided to take the leap into offering that for Biggenden and beyond.

The Edward Street shop offers a range of products from chemical free cleaning supplies, vitamins, gluten free foods, teas right through to locally sourced soaps.

“We’re trying to source products as locally as we can,” Mrs Hurst said.

She said they would also hire a part-time naturopath to provide guidance to those facing health issues or want to take a more natural approach to health care.

“Everyone is suffering from something so we want to help out in any way possible, just naturally,” Mrs Hurst said.

“We’re a small family run business and for us to be able to offer this to the community is very important.”

Mrs Hurst has some long term goals for the shop including click and collect services as well as distributing products across the North Burnett.
