Biggenden Meatworks fined $200,000 over death of worker

A BIGGENDEN abattoir was fined $200,000 in Maryborough Magistrates Court on Thursday, November 29, over the death of an employee in 2017.
Dallarnil man Colin Chivers suffered head injuries when he was struck by a ramp while unloading pigs at Biggenden Meatworks.
He later died in hospital.
Biggenden Meatworks, registered under Meats R Us Pty Ltd pleaded guilty to failing to comply with health and safety, category two.
Company director Peter Gibbs pleaded guilty to the same charge and was fined $15,000.
