The “vibrant and caring” life of Onyx Rose Lambert, who suicided at age 13 after years of relentless bullying, has been honoured in a moving tribute service held on the family’s sprawling 4ha property at Jimboomba, south of Brisbane.
The 11am service was attended by around 100 guests, including community members from Beaudesert State High School – where the child was cruelly bullied, firstly for “being fat” and more recently for identifying as a boy and changing her first name to Onyx.
Onyx Rose died on July 16 – on the same property where friends and family gathered to celebrate the child’s life.
Bright red T-shirts with the slogan “kindness is the key” were worn by family at the service and a slide show told of a much-loved child gone far too soon.
Grieving sister Ivy Lambert delivered a heartfelt eulogy, telling mourners Onyx Rose’s death would not be in vain.
“The last two weeks have been a blur. I still can’t believe you have gone. A piece of my soul went with you,” Ms Lambert said.
“I will not stop until this (state education) system has changed.
“I will be your voice and they will hear us.”
Since Onyx Rose’s passing, Ms Lambert has been a rock for their family, calling out a school and education system she says failed her family at every level.
Ms Lambert said her baby sister with the “beautiful golden brown eyes” was “always helping people work through their emotions with bullying but in the end the bullies got her”.
She said Onyx Rose had “this awesome happy go lucky vibe” in the earlier years and told of the child’s love of animals, Scouts, fishing, and devouring mulberries with her Pop.
Ms Lambert, mother to Mike, three, and Jessica, one, said Onyx Rose adored her children and spent lots of time with them, her kindness and caring nature shining through.
As The Courier-Mail reported yesterday, Onyx Rose was not the only child to suicide from Beaudesert High in recent times.
Lilly Patricia Rose Osborne suicided 20 months ago, on November 24, 2021, as her mother’s desperate pleas to “end the torture” of bullying were ignored by the school.
The Courier-Mail was invited to attend the celebration of life service for Onyx Rose Lambert.
