Campbell Newman says sorry for not coming clean on assets earlier

CAMPBELL Newman has apologised to Queensland voters for not coming clean about his financial interests earlier.

CAMPBELL Newman has apologised to Queensland voters for not coming clean about his financial interests earlier.

But the LNP leader this morning again insisted he had met council disclosure requirements and had only revealed more interests today because state laws set a ``higher bar''.

``I regret that people have felt that I should have disclosed more,'' he said.

``But again I've been more open and accountable, more transparent than any candidate has ever been and I was also open and transparent while I was the lord mayor of Brisbane.''

During a rooftop press conference at a Teneriffe development, Mr Newman said his family was upset by the interests ``onslaught'' and felt they had been ``dragged through barbed wire and broken glass'' by the Labor Party.

But he said his wife, Lisa Newman, had decided she would not stand down from her positions on company boards, as flagged last week, because of the ``legal and financial implications''.

``I think the best way though is that we will make sure that we always declare these things and we'll keep those registers updated,'' he said.
