The only summer trend which appears as rampant as Omicron in South East Queensland is the beach cabanas cropping up along the coastline.
Hundreds of the shade structures were sprawled across Noosa Main Beach this week as far as the eye could see as families crowd holiday hot spots.
James Merenda said he had increasingly seen more of the cabanas during his annual family trips to Noosa.
The Brisbane father finally caved to the fad this year, joining hundreds of families turning beaches into a colourful array.
His sons Dante and Romeo spent Wednesday between the warm waters of Noosa Main Beach and the shade of their new cabana.
“It’s good for the kids, they’re quick to put up and provide easy storage at the beach,” Mr Merenda said.
“They also keep the kids from getting burnt.
“Whoever invented them must be a millionaire.”
Queensland architect Mark Fraser came up with the concept while holidaying at Noosa with his wife and children in 2014.
The company’s success has allowed for distribution centres in the US and the Netherlands.
