A neglected dog has been given a second chance at life after being rescued from a home where he lived under the house and never received vet care.
The 10-year-old Shar Pei called Butch was previously in the care of owners who just called him “Dog”.
Butch was surrendered by his owners and is now in the care of Tracie Kachel at Tamborine, who works full time while also dedicating her spare time to helping dogs in need recover and get ready for rehoming.
Ms Kachel said Butch has never had any vet work done on him, and needed eye surgery in 2013 which was never done.
The list of extensive vet work includes desexing, extensive skin treatment, removal of a cyst on his side, eye surgery as he is nearly blind, and complete ear flushing as he can’t hear anything, with his ears completely blocked.
“I will see him through his recovery, with the pain his ears are causing he needs to be somewhere he will feel familiar, his sight is pretty much gone,” Ms Kachel told The Courier-Mail.

“Once this boy has recovered it is anticipated he will find his perfect forever home to live out his days – he deserves this and more after the shocking life he has so far endured.
“By the time I got Butch home he already looked so much happier, tongue out, happy smile, bum wobble albeit in pain and very itchy.”
Ms Kachel said Butch is “extra special” and has already received interest from people far and wide to adopt him when he is ready, including people in WA showing interest.
“I won’t keep him, if I did that I can’t help others, and while there are some (that) come through that touch your soul and break your heart when they leave it’s what has to happen for others to have a new forever story,” she said.
Currently Butch is learning how to sit for a treat, and is enjoying frequent coconut oil rub-downs to help soothe severe skin irritation.
With the help of non-profit organisation Precious Paws Animal Rescue Inc (PPAR), Butch will be on track to recovering – but has an estimated vet bill of more than $4500 to make it possible.
A GoFundMe page has been created to give the Shar Pei a second chance, and eventually PPAR will put him up for adoption to find his forever home.
