Work underway after State funding allocated to Bundaberg South State School, Kepnock State High School

Upgrades are underway in the region: Here’s where the money is going at Bundaberg South State School and Kepnock State High School.

The $3.66m funding announced for Bundaberg schools in the Queensland Government budget is being put to use.

Progress has made at Kepnock State High and Bundaberg South State Schools to improve school safety, refurbish classrooms and upgrade facilities.

With the school boundary facing three major roads (Walla, Boundary and George Streets) the school had identified the need for improved security measures to keep students, teachers and their families safe.

$440,000 of new security fencing is being installed around the entire school grounds with access points for the teacher’s carpark and administration.

Member for Bundaberg Tom Smith said the security fencing was a welcome addition for Bundaberg South State School.

“This is a fantastic upgrade for the students here at Bundaberg South State School,” Tom Smith MP said.

“Families can feel safe knowing their kids are being protected while in the classroom and in the school playgrounds.

“In the event that the school needs to go into lockdown, the security fencing teachers and their staff make sure all students are safe and secure.”

Work is ongoing at Kepnock State High School where a new lift and covered walkway is being installed to provide better accessibility for students and teachers.

The Palaszczuk Government delivered the $519,546 upgrade which will link school blocks A, B and C and provide lift access.

“I’m excited to see the progress at Kepnock State High School,” Mr Smith said.

“This is another project that will make accessing school classrooms easier for disabled students and for students moving from one class to the next.

“I’m proud to see the Palaszczuk Government investing in our Bundaberg students, delivering infrastructure that improves the safety, accessibility and quality of our schools.”
