Work has begun on a $540,000 upgrade of Goodwood Rd near Elliott which is expected to take three weeks to complete.
A Transport and Main Roads press release on Wednesday stated the upgrade would include fixing potholes, pavement widening, installing left and right lanes and resurfacing work at Burnett Youth Learning Centre.
TMR Southern Queensland regional director Bill Landsbury said the work was in response to community concerns.
“Once community concerns with safety along this stretch of Goodwood Road were identified, TMR began corresponding with the Burnett Youth Learning Centre to identify safety improvement opportunities,” Mr Landsbury said.
“The $540,000 works are funded under the Queensland Government’s School Transport Infrastructure Program, which provides funding to improve the safety and operation of schools through new or improved infrastructure at the school and surrounding network.”
Construction will be undertaken during the day with traffic control measures including single lane closures, stop/go traffic control and reduced speed limits. Work will be programmed to ensure any traffic delays are kept to a minimum.
“This funding will go a long way towards providing safe conditions for road users along this stretch, particularly for the staff and students of the Burnett Youth Learning Centre,” Mr Landsbury said.
