Upgrades to Bundaberg Recreational Precinct to finish in the next month

As development surges in the Rum City, a progress update on new upgrades to the Bundaberg Recreational Precinct has been released.

Work on a new multimillion dollar project to revamp Bundaberg’s recreational grounds are well underway with construction expected to be completed by October.

The revamp, which will include a new entrance administration building with ticket booths and meeting rooms began in January and has supported an average of seven local jobs throughout the build.

It’s one of a number of major development projects set to boost the local economy.

The Indigenous Wellbeing Centre recently received approval from council to go ahead with the multimillion dollar expansion for their Bundaberg facility while owners of the Westside Plaza at Avoca also got the green light for a major overhaul at the site which will include a gym and child care centre.

The work at the BRP is being carried out by local company Murchie Constructions and, once complete, will mean local showgoers and keen AgroTrend attendees have new facilities to look forward to when both events come around next year.

Bundaberg Regional Council spokesman for sports and recreation Vince Habermann said the build had created new jobs for locals.

“The area was highlighted for an upgrade through a masterplan completed early last year which suggested improvements including an entry statement, flexible event spaces, expanded accommodation and landscaping be featured.

“Current works include a new entrance administration building with ticket booths, meeting rooms for events and community organisations, and small office space for event co-ordination.”

Cr Habermann said there would also be space to display public art and historical images.

“A pedestrian-friendly avenue will also be created with space to install public art, historical images, banners, event-specific displays and information,” he said.

“A plaza will enable informal gatherings and mobile food vendors and there will be new seating, lighting and landscaping to create a sense of anticipation.”

The recreational precinct revamp received both state and federal funding support.
