Gayndah library closed after car ploughs into building
A Queensland library and customer service centre has suffered extensive damage after a vehicle smashed into the building, leaving two men injured.
A town’s library has been closed to the public after a car drove into the building, leaving two injured.
A statement published on the North Burnett Regional Council Facebook page on Wednesday revealed that the Gayndah Customer Service and Library Centre received “major structural damage” after the crash on Sunday morning.
According to the statement, the facility was “unlikely to be accessible to the public for some time”.
“A structural assessment of the building has been completed, and a plan of action is being prioritised,” the statement read.
“Council will share this plan with the community as soon as possible.”
Council services will be delivered at the administration building next door, with a temporary library to be established in the Gayndah Boardroom.
Emergency crews rushed to the crash scene at Capper Street around 1.55am on Sunday morning.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two men inside the vehicle were injured and taken to Gayndah Hospital in a stable condition.
One patient reportedly suffered head, neck, and abdominal injuries and the other sustained minor injuries.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said crews were also called to the incident and the vehicle “was leaning against the building”.
Both occupants were out of the car and crews made sure the scene was safe.
