Two men in a tinnie rescued off Bargara

Two boaties are lucky to be alive after the electronics in their tinnie started taking on water off Bargara on Monday.

Two men were forced to activate an emergency beacon after their boat began taking on water off the coast of Bargara on Monday morning.

The men became stranded around 9am when the electronics in their tinnie failed and could not be restarted, leaving the boat drifting with the current.

It’s believed the failure was caused by their vessel taking on water from heavy rain storms in the area.

The Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter, Australian Maritime Safety Authority and Bundaberg Volunteer Marine Rescue were tasked in a multi-agency operation once the beacon was activated.

The helicopter crew found the boat about 16 kilometres off the coast of Bargara and lowered a radio to the men so they could communicate with authorities.

VMR towed the boat to safety while the rescue helicopter circled above.

Both men were reported safe and well.
